GAME OF THE BRIDGE

The city of Pisa boasts an ancient and illustrious history that has given rise to traditions and folklore festivities worth experiencing. In the month of June, coinciding with the celebrations of the Patron Saint San Ranieri, some of the most anticipated events by the citizens take place.

Among these, we strongly recommend participating in the Bridge Game, which usually takes place annually on the last Saturday of June. The event consists of two distinct moments: a historical parade along the riverbanks, with the participation of 710 performers, and the battle on the Ponte di Mezzo, a demonstration of physical strength and devotion to the city's colors.

GAME OF THE BRIDGE

During the battle, known as the true Bridge Game, the Magistracies of the Pisan quarters, divided into the Mezzogiorno and Tramontana factions (located respectively south and north of the Arno River), challenge each other to push a cart along the bridge to gain an advantage.

This engaging event is one of the oldest among Pisa's traditional events, with origins dating back approximately 1000 years. Don't miss the opportunity to witness the Bridge Game: mark the last Saturday of June on your agenda at the Ponte di Mezzo.
